Position: Operations Manager, Direct Distribution Centres

Schedule: May vary (based on 24 hours, 5 day/wk operation)

Direct Distribution is part of the Canada Cartage System family, where warehouse fulfillment and distribution services are complemented by dedicated trucking solutions and third-party logistics services (3PL). These services can operate as stand-alone offerings or operate harmoniously to form a customized logistics solution designed to service goods entering and leaving the Canadian market.

The Operations Manager directs a team of Supervisory and Hourly Team Members in a high-volume supply chain operation. Their main goal is to maximize the performance of the site by directing the daily, weekly and monthly activities. It is their role to provide leadership, motivation, training and development of the workforce. They must be able to ensure that Customer and Corporate requirements are met to achieve operational excellence

Key Accountabilities:


Customer

  • Fulfill customer contract requirements and identify accessorial activity; ensure necessary documentation

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining effective Customer Relationships

  • Utilize the site warehouse Management system to ensure:

  • Management of cycle counting / adjustment / rotation programs;

  • Productivity and Space utilization (efficient product placement, etc.);

  • Accuracy – Inventory or Outbound Orders

  • Identify opportunities for Improvement

Employees

  • Deliver a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for Team Members

  • Provide for Associate performance reviews, development of Supervisors to move to the next level

  • Ensure Compliance to the routines outlined in the SOP’s

  • Ensure company policies are communicated, applied and enforced (i.e. accounting, operational, safety, regulatory and administrative)

  • Participate in the Management, training, development of supervisors as well as, hiring & retention of hourly and supervisory staff consistent with the site turnover objectives

  • Ensure the Team Members have proper access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties and that the tools are routinely maintained


Process

  • Operate within the agreed budget (P&L) for the site

  • Ensure all inventory accuracy metrics are met

  • Co-ordinate the collection of performance measurements consistent with Customer, vendor and contractual requirements

  • Understand process performance versus target objectives, identify reasons for variance, communicate and implement necessary changes

  • Ensure daily / weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)

Job Requirements:

  • 4 – 7 years management experience in warehousing and distribution

  • 2-4 years in a supervisory/management role

  • Post Secondary Education or equivalent experience

  • A hands-on management approach that encourages change and creative problem-solving

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and high-intensity environment

  • Experience in a large distribution center strongly preferred

  • Ability to interact effectively at multiple levels in support of customer relationships

  • Ability to meet strict time frames in environments with zero tolerance for failure

  • A commitment to continuous improvement in an ever-changing industry

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and high integrity

  • Strong relationship-building skills

  • Ability to mentor direct reports

  • Self-confidence (particularly with client relationships)
