National Director of Purchase Transportation

Position Summary: Centralized procurement of all CCLS purchased transportation. Negotiation and management of tariffs, service levels and performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain a repository of all purchased transportation agreements.

  • Centralize data on tariff rates.

  • Negotiate rates and pricing terms and conditions with carriers.

  • Develop a stable of carriers to meet the needs and requirements of the business.

  • Educate sales and operations on the strengths and weaknesses of the various carriers.

  • Interface and act as the gatekeeper with carriers for new projects.

  • Act as a member of the CCLS senior management team, including involvement in major decisions and strategies (i.e. Technology, billing systems, etc.)

  • Provide reports on KPI’s for purchased transportation

  • Contribute and enhance solutions for existing and prospective customers

  • Continuous Improvement

    Continually strives to improve work processes, methods, environment, customer service, personal and team performance.

  • Other duties as required.

Working Experience and Skills

  • Good working knowledge of US, International and Canadian;

    • Air

    • Small Package

    • LTL

    • Truckload

  • Exemplary analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative

  • University degree in Business is an asset

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Procurement and Carrier relations in the transportation/third party logistics industry

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong relationship skills

  • Creative and eager with a can do attitude

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
