Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) is an international nonprofit dedicated to building a better world through engineering projects that empower communities to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced writer and content strategist to join the Public and Donor Relations team at our headquarters in Denver, Colorado. The ideal candidate for this position has a defensible position on the use of the Oxford comma and is comfortable writing for any medium. This person will proactively search for opportunities to tell the EWB-USA story from various angles and to package those stories for a wide range of audiences. Additionally, they should have a knack for finding creative ways to effectively share the organization’s mission, message and goals.
Act as a liaison for the communications team to collect and publish content from a variety of sources, including, but not limited to: international and domestic projects, monitoring and evaluation reports, volunteers, partners, and more
Work with program staff at EWB-USA’s headquarters and field offices to generate ideas for new content around projects and partnerships
Develop those ideas into written stories that can be utilized for EWB-USA’s blog, emails, e-newsletters, social media, campaigns, and more
Work with fundraising staff to identify and create content needed to apply for funding opportunities, fulfill corporate partner commitments, and report back to funders
Work with volunteer engagement staff to identify human interest stories that spotlight and celebrate our volunteer population, and develop those stories for use in EWB-USA’s channels
Develop content and update as-needed for the EWB-USA.org website
Stay current with trends and best practices related to communications and marketing in the nonprofit sector
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field
Minimum five years experience creating a variety of content for various audiences
Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress; email providers such as MailChimp or Constant Contact; and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, HootSuite, Instagram, LinkedIn, and more
Excellent writing and editing skills
Experience taking fresh concepts and ideas to a comprehensive plan and execution
Flexibility to create content on short notice, and to adapt and pivot from plan as necessary
