UK WEEE Business Development & Compliance Manager

UK base (preferably North West or Midlands)

We put our success down to our innovative and supportive workforce and we are offering the opportunity for a skilled WEEE Professional to accelerate the implementation of the WEEE commercial strategy for the UK’s leading recycler.

You will be working with our well-established Producer Responsibility team, providing your expertise to a business that makes a true difference.

You will be supporting our WEEE function centrally, which operates across 70 locations UK wide, taking commercial responsibility for all UK accounts.

Your commercial background will ensure that our customers are given a high-quality experience and there is a recognisable EMR brand across our operation.

We are privately owned with a heritage dating back to the 1940s and employ around 4000 people around the world. Our core business is the recycling of metal from a range of sources such as End-of-Life vehicles, consumer products, industry, construction and demolition. This results in sales of recycled commodities of around 10 million tonnes a year. We have extensive operations worldwide and produce high quality recycled materials which are taken to market by our substantial road, rail and shipping network.

What you will be doing:

  • Commercial excellence- Your entrepreneurial approach will drive forward the WEEE business unit, moving from strength to strength, focusing on new business and professional account management. 
  • Adaptive management style – Managing centrally but  working across 70 operational locations. Leading by example, and appreciating that different people respond positively to different approaches, especially in such a fast-paced environment. 
  • Compliance focused - Continuously looking to raise the bar and improve EMR’s response to WEEE. Your approach to managing the UK compliance to WEEE legislation contributes to maintaining the successful strategy of EMR.
  • Collaborating with your team through many employee voice channels - You are a believer that the best answers come from those who are living and breathing the operation and the closer you are to it, the greater your success.
  • Customer focused approach- You are a true advocate for customer service and making your operation a success, ensuring business excellence and service delivery is best in class for a variety of multi-million pound clients.

About you

  • You have a strong track record of achievement within the WEEE industry.
  • Your track record shows someone motivated and driven to achieve increased efficiencies, reduced costs, and improved outcomes within your function.
  • Your commercial experience demonstrates that you have a passion for generating new business and account management.
  • You will have good project management experience which has seen you make some value-added changes in your past.
  • Your knowledge around compliance with WEEE legislation is current and up to date, and you’re aware of the regular changes in government guidelines.
  • You will be able to develop strategies and plans at a customer level to achieve strategic outcomes and influence the wider operational business.
  • You are comfortable working directly with operational colleagues, enthusing them to embrace new and improved ways of working.
