We are looking for an energetic person who is committed to strength-based, person focused care to join our team as a Relief Addiction Counsellor. This person will work as part of the staff treatment team within our Women’s and Men’s Residential Addiction Treatment programs. These community based residential programs are for adult men and women, whose use of alcohol and/or other drugs have seriously impacted their lives


**This is a casual position with no regularly scheduled hours. Shifts will generally be any day of the week between 8:00am – 4:00pm and/or Sunday to Thursday 3:30pm – 11:00pm **


Your key responsibilities include:

1.      Welcoming, admission and discharge

2.      Group counselling

3.      Monitoring the residence

4.      Documentation

5.      Working as an effective member of the staff treatment team

6.      Participation and involvement in other program activities

7.      Work in a safe and healthy manner


Your skills and experience include:

1.      University Degree in Counselling/Social Work with professional certification/registration is required (RSW, RP)

2.      Experience in individual and group counselling with women/men

3.      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required

4.      Ability to assess complex situations and make appropriate decisions independently and as part of a team

5.      Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues relating to and impacting on women/men

6.      Knowledge of substance abuse and recovery issues

7.      Previous experience in a residential treatment/residential setting is desirable

8.      Current standard first aid certificate or willingness to obtain at hiring

9.      Experience working within a non-profit and/or social services environment preferred

10.  Strong interest in working with people in need of support

11.  Ability to work effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds

12.  Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
