Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is a progressive independent person centered national organisation providing services for people with limited mobility.


We now seek applications for the following permanent position with base location in IWA Drogheda, Co. Louth

Service Support Officer, Drogheda, Co. Louth

 (39 Hours per week,1 year fixed term contract , Salary €34,891)


Roles & Responsibilities:


·      To support the delivery, development and evaluation of a person-centred programme for young adults in response to students needs and based on IWA best practice and standards

·      To identify and develop opportunities in partnership with students to enable them to increase their social participation and lead full, active and independent lives in their own communities

·      To maintain working rotas and carry out day-to-day administrative duties associated with School Leaver Service, ensuring accurate records are kept in relation to projects, programmes and services provided.

·      To mentor and support IWA staff to ensure the services meet the standards of the Association

·      To support the Service Coordinator in ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the operation of the services

·      To accompany and support students on social and community outings & activities including holidays and out-of-hours work, as required by Service Coordinator

·      To provide personal care for students while in attendance at services

·      To develop and support the volunteer programme within the service

·      To actively ensure that standards and practices regarding health and safety are fully adhered to in all areas of the resource and outreach service

·      To focus on the inclusion of people with disability within their wider community and develop links within the community to support this

·      To avail of opportunities to heighten the profile of IWA in the local community in order to promote a positive attitude towards disability within the community

·      To help source employment opportunities within the community

·      To perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Service Coordinator

 


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

·      Qualification at Level 6 or higher such as QQI Supervisory Management Skills; BA in Social Care or equivalent (Occupational Therapist / Community Work / Youth Work) is essential

·      Previous experience of developing and delivering projects or programmes is essential

·      Previous experience of driving accessible transport for people with disabilities (or a willingness to do so) would be an advantage

·      The ability to make operational decisions and possess good problem solving skills is essential

·      Excellent computer and administration skills (Microsoft Office & Database Management) are essential

·      An awareness and understanding of the needs of people with physical and sensory disabilities or a marginalized group is desirable

·      Experience of working with people with disabilities required

·      Leadership experience is desirable

·      Experience of Quality systems and maintenance of same an advantage

·      A full driving license is required

·      Commitment to a person-centred approach
