As an EFL Teacher at Stafford House, you will work with students from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds. This is a unique opportunity to interact with them inside and outside of the classroom.

Newly-qualified teachers are especially welcome. We offer an in-house syllabus and teaching materials, full support from the academic team at the centre, and extensive teacher development - a great way to kick-start your TEFL career.

The teaching staff are supported by the Director of Studies and Senior Teachers at the centre, and also by an experienced academic team at Head Office. In our most recent British Council accreditation inspection, we received a number of strengths for teaching and learning:

You will have a full induction on the first day of your contract where you will be prepared for your role.

Non-residential teaching-only roles also available at most centres - please consult us for salary.

Start Date: - Contracted work from June – August 2019, depending on location

Salary: - Basic rate of £358.55 per week for residential positions. £404 for non-residential positions. Non-residential positions at London Bankside, London Bloomsbury, London Uxbridge and Cambridge £499.95. Accrued holiday pay of 12.07% of total gross pay and Increments for 1+ and 3+ years of full-time teaching experience (£5 and £15 per week), and recognised diploma-equivalent qualifications (£40 per week) available. Locations: - Cambridge, Chichester, Edinburgh, London [Bankside, Bloomsbury and Uxbridge], Malvern, Oakham, Woodcote (near Reading) York

Hours: - 42 hours (15-30 hrs Teaching, 10-25 hrs Welfare, Activities and Excursions, 2 hrs Administration) over 6 days per week

Key responsibilities

  • Be fully conversant with our policies for the welfare and protection of children.
  • Teach English to a high standard, following our in-house syllabus, with an emphasis on oral communication
  • Actively assist in the supervision of sports and/or games or arts and crafts, and social activities
  • Lead students on excursions, ensuring their safety and welfare
  • Provide students with information and encouragement to learn, helping them to make the most from their stay
  • Carry out welfare duties as directed by the Welfare team
  • Carry out admin duties and maintain proper records as directed

Experience and skills


  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in English or MFL, or equivalent**
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Be a confident, outgoing and sociable character
  • Have an interest in sports, drama, and arts and crafts
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and be flexible
  • Enjoy working with teenagers and young people from other cultures


  • Previous experience working with/supervising teenagers
  • Previous summer school experience

**Other TEFL qualifications may be acceptable if they have been validated by an external body, include a minimum of 6 hours of supervised teaching practice and 100 hours of input. Please note that one-day, weekend, online and distance learning courses are not considered equivalent.
